UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE
MPhil (Biological Sciences)
2011 - 2012
Supervisor: Dr. Alex Thornton
Dissertation: “Social organization and decision-making in wild jackdaws”
I investigated provisioning and roosting behavior and found indications of the importance of the paternal role during the incubation of offspring as well as evidence suggesting vocalizations play an important role in roosts.
Project: “Individual variation in cognitive performance”
I aided Dr. Alex Thornton and Dr. Dieter Lukas by collecting data from scientific journal articles to contribute to a database of information on individual performances in tests of animal cognition.
BA & Honorary MA (Natural Sciences)

Final Project: “Sociality and behavioral contagion in rooks, jackdaws and Eurasian jays”
I was supervised by Professor Nicola Clayton and Dr. Corina Logan on this project where surprising results led me to suggest the existence of cultural differences between rook populations, and my write-up was among the top 20% of all projects marked.
2nd Year Project: “The influence of predation risk on the foraging strategies of blue tits and great tits”
I was supervised by Professor Nick Davies on this project where I found evidence for blue tits (and to lesser extent great tits) choosing their foraging sites according to risk of predation.
